Time Flies

Firesign Theatre quote of the day:
"They'll be trapped like Mars flies in a Klein bottle!"

Monk moment of the day:
I finally categorized the t-shirts in my t-shirt drawer.

Geek moment of the day:
For the first time I can remember, I had a dream about zombies.

Hello, fans. I guess it's been awhile since I wrote. As I've said before, my life isn't all that interesting to write about, but I'll try to make an appearance occasionally. A lot has happened since my last post.

Probably the most notable event has been the loss of my job. After working in the control room of a TV station for 30 years, I was fired. I guess it was over a misunderstanding with a sick day, and the company was looking for an excuse to do some damage to the small Union by firing me and another guy, both Union officers. I don't like to go into the details, but we feel that the company was wrong. The Union is filing charges with the NLRB. On a personal note, I really don't want to work there anymore, so I'm kinda hoping it fails, or that the company would offer a severance.

It has been nice to be out of work and collecting unemployment benefits which my tenure has paid for. Unfortunately the benefits don't last forever. I am taking a computer course for an "A+ Certificate" with the hope I can find work as a Computer Tech. The really great benefit to this whole event is that I have evenings and weekends with my wonderful wife. Because of layoffs a couple of years ago, my schedule had changed and I had to work evenings and weekends, leaving very few hours a week with Jeanine. Now we have more time together and I take care of the house and the cooking, much to Jeanine's delight.

On a lighter note, our 3rd grandchild was born in May. Calvin Dean Brown is his name. He has a stuffed tiger named Hobbes. His dad, Jason, is a geek and loves Calvin & Hobbes, like me. Unlike the comic strip character, Calvin is not an only child. He has 2 sisters, Maizie and Iris. If he survives living with those two, he should be quite the geek, too.

Another quick note of updating, I had written about climate change and brought up global cooling. Since then global cooling and "climate-gate" made quite a news splash around the world, but covered up quite well in the U.S. It's just amazing to watch the battle and quite eye-opening to see the revered climate scientists caught in a huge deception with manipulated data. It's not over yet.

I think I will quit for now. I had planned to spend the day concentrating on my computer class. When I thought about my sadly ignored blog, I just had to feed the distraction. Adult ADD wins again.

Thanks for reading!
